Hello Neighbor is seeking a Director of Finance, who will be responsible for creating, implementing, and managing the financial, human resource, and operations processes, control and support systems, and compliance integral to the day-to-day operations of Hello Neighbor.
This position supports the work of the Chief Executive Officer and collaborates closely with other Hello Neighbor senior staff, and is a core member of the Hello Neighbor Leadership team helping to both set the tone for daily organizational functions and set the strategic framework to support the continued growth of the organization.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit finance management, especially regarding government contracts and fund-based accounting principles, as well as exceptional analytical skills and the ability to provide strategic insights to support the organization's mission.
Founded in 2017, Hello Neighbor works to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families by matching them with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new home. We’ve expanded from our mentorship program to now include refugee resettlement services, family service programs, a national program supporting other refugee and immigrant nonprofits around the country.
This is an in-house regular, full-time exempt position at our Pittsburgh, PA office in Larimer. We are currently on a hybrid work schedule of 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday; in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and work-from-home on Mondays and Fridays. We require COVID-19 vaccination and a booster for full-time employees. The successful candidate must be currently authorized to work in the United States.

Direct Reports: Staff Accountant, Direct Cash Assistance Coordinator, HR & Ops Coordinator, and Office Manager
Key Responsibilities- Directs all financial bookkeeping processes and internal control policies and procedures; ensures tasks align with internal fiscal timelines.
- Leads organization-wide annual budgeting and forecasting; collaborates with program leads and the board’s Finance Committee.
- Oversees the organization’s annual financial audit and federal and state tax form preparation; ensures compliance with Hello Neighbor policy, GAAP, and FASB requirements.
- Ensures timely, accurate, and useful financial reporting, both periodic and specialized.
- Develops effective board financial reporting processes with input from Leadership and the Finance Committee.
- Manages the Operations budget segment, ensuring expenses align with planned budgets and forecasts.
- Manages Hello Neighbor bank accounts, loans, investments, and asset management; ensures transactions are accurate and the organization receives optimal service.
- Manages all business insurance programs, including general liability and worker’s compensation.
- Ensures compliance with all financial oversight agencies.
- Oversees human resources functions, ensuring alignment with Hello Neighbor values, policies, and compliance with employment regulations.
- Manages and supports recruiting processes, including job description development and terminations.
- Directs the annual employee benefits renewal process; solicits bids and investigates benefit offerings.
- Oversees benefits program open enrollment, execution, staff education, and accessibility of benefits information.
- Develops and directs employee performance management, feedback, engagement, professional development, and recognition programs.
- Works with the CEO to develop and implement annual compensation, including pay bands, compensation review processes, and annual increases.
- Oversees the selection, implementation, and maintenance of all HR systems, including payroll, HRIS, and time and labor management.
- Oversees the payroll process, ensuring compliance with employment and benefits-related regulations.
- Oversees administrative and operations functions, ensuring efficient management of organizational resources, facilities, and IT infrastructure.
- Supports office, facility, storage unit and passenger van operations.
- Serves on the executive leadership team, supporting the CEO and other leaders in promoting organizational equity, transparency, and accountability.
- Participates in regular supervision and staff meetings.
- Adheres to confidentiality guidelines and handles sensitive information appropriately.
- Manages other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or other related field (SHRM or other HR certification/education a plus)
- Minimum of 5-7 years experience managing nonprofit operations, human resources, and finance functions with fund-based accounting experience
- Understanding of nonprofit finances and reporting with work experience in philanthropic, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
- High level of organization and attention to detail and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at one time
- Digital literacy and the ability to learn new software; relevant software utilized at Hello Neighbor includes: Quickbooks Online, Google/G-Suite, Slack, Notion, Bill A/P and Bill Spend & Expense and others
- Exhibits adept task management, including priority setting, meeting deadlines, and efficient time scheduling for multiple responsibilities

- This is a regular, full-time exempt in-house position at our Pittsburgh office in the Larimer neighborhood
- Clearances required: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal History Clearance, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Clearance (PA Act 23 & Act 24)
- We require COVID-19 vaccination and a booster for full-time employees
- Personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance preferred

- Salary: $80,000 - 84,000 annually, payable biweekly
